Three ESM athletes were on court for the decisive wins.
Two years after the USA’s last appearance at the FIP World Cup, both national teams are heading back to Doha. The North & Central America qualifiers wrapped up in Toronto this weekend, with the men’s and women’s squads securing their spots at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in November.
The qualifiers were held at The District Padel & Pickleball, hosted by Padel Canada. Three ESM athletes played a role in getting both teams through.
Clemen and Dhany clinch it against Canada
The USA women beat Mexico on August 1 and Canada on August 2 to book their place in Doha. Against Canada, with qualification on the line, the decisive point came from ESM’s Clementina Riobueno and Dhany Quevedo, who took down Sales/Ojeda 7-5, 6-4.
The team’s other wins that day came from Brittany Dubins and Marta Morga (6-2, 6-1 over Indjin/Mackie) and Carla Rodriguez and Daniela Ruiz (6-0, 6-0 over Berriri/Lilley).
Nico goes 2-0 in Toronto
On the men’s side, Nico Agritelley won both his matches. He picked up the win vs Canada in Friday’s opener, then teamed with Matias Segura on Sunday to beat Mexico in a three-set thriller (6-7, 6-1, 6-1) in a match where both teams had already qualified.
The men’s win over Mexico was sealed by Raul Ruiz Alvarez and Jose Antonio De Armas, who took down Castillo/Barrientos 6-4, 6-7, 7-6.
Next stop: Doha
Both USA teams now head to Doha for the FIP World Cup 2026, the first US appearance at the tournament in two years. Before then, the South America qualifiers get underway in Asunción, Paraguay, from August 20 to 22.
