Guille Cagigas and Agustín Torre won their first PPL match of the season on Friday in Playa del Carmen, beating the Los Angeles Beat’s Tolito Aguirre and Denis Perino 6–3, 6–4. It was also the first win of the year for the Las Vegas Smash men.
Tolito is one of the most talked about players in padel. The Argentine was number one on the APT Padel Tour, went on to lead the A1 Padel rankings with Gonzalo Alfonso, and has played a Premier Padel final. Beating him in straight sets is the best we’ve seen from Guille in the PPL so far.

The match had some history to it too. Earlier this year, Los Angeles picked Guille in the inaugural PPL II Draft. He earned his way onto the Las Vegas main roster from there, and his first PPL win came against the team that drafted him.
“We’re very happy to win this one together here in Mexico,” Guille said after the match.
Saturday was tougher. Miami Padel Club’s Alvaro Melendez Amaya and Jose Antonio Garcia Diestro beat Guille and Agustín 6–3, 6–2 on their way to the men’s final, and Guille left Mexico 1–1.
There’s one more regular season event in November, and Las Vegas sits eighth in the standings, one point behind Los Angeles. The top six go straight into The Finals in Miami, December 3 to 6, and seventh and eighth get there through a play-in, so there’s still a real chance for the Smash to qualify. Guille goes into November with his first win behind him.
Congratulations, Guille and Agustín. See you in November.
